Towards Assessing Effects of Isolation on Determinism in Multi-Application Scenarios
In addition to the already present heterogeneity in the network service and application ecosystem, new challenges come in the form of emerging applications which require deterministic delay performance characteristics that go beyond traditional SLAs. While hard network slicing with strict isolation is a promising candidate for addressing such requirements, it might be overly restrictive and hard to scale, hence leading to an inefficient use of available resources.
Providing More Than ‘Just’ Reachability Through Semantic Networking
The Internet has been constantly evolving beyond its original purpose to ensure the reachability between endpoints wherever they may be located. The many technologies developed in Standard Developing Organizations (SDOs) and through proprietary solutions bear witness to this continuous evolution, often driven through specifying and implementing new communication protocols or design practises. Parts of those solutions may overload, amend, or extend packet header semantics at the risk of endangering interoperability of the solutions that make up the Internet system.
Adventures with Semantic Networking and the 1st ACM SIGCOMM Workshop on Future Internet Routing & Addressing (FIRA)
Applications are placing increasingly sophisticated demands on the network for better quality, more predictability, and greater reliability. Some of these applications are futuristic predictions (for example, holographic conferencing and expansive virtual reality worlds), while others are already seeing actual network demands (such as multi-player augmented- or virtual-reality games).
TeraFlow, invited to 6G O-RAN evolution workshop
TeraFlow H2020 was invited to participate in 6G O-RAN evolution workshop organised by O-RAN nGRG.
Raul Muñoz from CTTC gave a talk about the TeraFlowSDN group in ETSI, working in the development of an open source SDN controller for 6G xHaul transport networks. This talk was a part of a panel that discussed 6G use cases, architecture and AI.
5GPPP Workshop on 6G KPIs
The 5GPPP Test Measurement and KPI Validation work group (TMV WG) celebrated a workshop to reflect on 6G KPIs and how to measure them. Our colleague Daniel King from Old Dog Consulting presented the TeraFlow project there.
The target of this workshop was to discuss the KPI definitions and which measurement techniques exists to monitor them. The workshop was also the kick-off of the next iteration of the white paper.
Upcoming ETSI TeraFlowSDN release 2 features
TFS release 2 cycle is well underway, with novel features being proposed, developed, consolidated and updated. In this second release, a big focus is put on scalability and resilience of the controller, with a complete re-design of the Context Component to include a scalable database (i.e., CrocoachDB) to support the stringent non-functional requirements.
TeraFlow SDN – ETSI Hackfest in NetworkX
ETSI's Centre for Testing and Interoperability and the TeraFlowSDN community organized its first TFS Hackfest on 20 October 2022, in the framework of the NetworkX event in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
TeraFlow in CSNDSP 2022
The IEEE/IET International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP) has been running biennial since 1998 and growing in size and success each edition. Now it normally attracts about 200 delegates from around the world. It has been recognised as an international forum to present and exchange research findings and discuss future research topics in the fields of communication systems, communications networks, digital signal processing and other related areas.
