This whitepaper aims to analyze the operators’ requirements for SDN control of transport networks, as defined by the Telecom Infra Project, Open Optical & Packet Transport (OOPT) group. ETSI TeraFlowSDN, a novel Cloud-native SDN controller and SDN orchestrator (hierarchical SDN controller), has demonstrated its versatility by serving as an end-to-end SDN orchestrator on top of a large set of heterogeneous SDN data plans.
Mobile networks support variety of heterogeneous services, including the emergency and mission-critical ones. The next generation of mobile networks introduces the concept of network slicing where (a group of) services can have a dedicated, logically separated virtual network running over a shared physical infrastructure. Each slice may have a specific set of functional and non-functional requirements including performance, security, resilience, and survivability.
ETSI announced the creation of OpenSlice, its first Software Development Group (SDG). TeraFlowSDN and Open Source MANO will collaborate with OpenSlice to enrich the suite of ETSI open source components.
The TeraFlow project has reached its conclusion, and throughout its course, several important lessons have been learned.
